Chapters -------------------------------- 00:00 Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya 07:37 Sorabora Wewa 15:20 Dunhinda Falls 20:09 Muthiyanganaya Raja Maha Viharaya Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya It is crucial that you visit the Mahiyangana Raja Maha Vihara, believed to be the site of Gautama Buddha’s first visit, considered to be one of the Solosmasthana, the 16 sacred places of worship in Sri Lanka. Declared an archaeological site in Sri Lanka, the temple is a must-visit for anyone interested in knowing more about the Buddhist culture of Sri Lankans. Sorabora Wewa Sorabora Wewa is a popular travel destination in the Uva province of Sri Lanka. It is a large reservoir located near Mahiyangana town in the Badulla district. The reservoir was built by a giant called “Bulatha” in the 2nd century BC. A stone sluice gate can be found at Sorabora Wewa. The structure is unique to this tank, and you can’t see it in any other reservoirs in the country. Dunhinda Ella Dunhinda is considered to be one of the most enchanting falls in Sri Lanka and is in close proximity to Badulla town. The water resembles a thin cloud as it cascades 63m downwards into a large pool. The backdrop to the fall is known as ‘Dunhinda Adaviya’. ‘Dunhinda’ translates to ‘spraying/vapour waterfall’ – the word ‘dun’ means ‘gave/was given’, while ‘hinda’ means ‘evaporate’. Muthiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya Muthiyangana Temple is one amongst the sixteen sacred Buddhist temples in the country. According to legends, during Lord Buddha’s third visit to Sri Lanka, he had given his sermons at the location where Muthiyangana Temple now stands. The stupa was built by a tribal leader and later transformed into a temple complex by Sinhalese kings. Apart from the stupa, Muthiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya is also known for the four Bodhi trees at its premises, each tree with an interesting story associated with it. Also, a procession occurs annually at the temple.
