Thousands of migrant workers gather at Bandra Railway Station | Nishan Chilkuri reports

Host: Nishan Sampreeth Chilkuri (@nishanchilkuri) There is absolute panic at Bandra railway station in Mumbai right now. Over 1000 migrant workers who were expecting to leave to their respective states, if the lockdown ended today gathered in large numbers there. Police had to resort to lathi charging the massive crowd which gathered there, but to no avail. Workers from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal reached there at 3 pm today, and refused to leave. They told news channels that they had run out of money, and that they had to go back to their native place at any cost. While arrangements have been made by the Maharashtra government for them, in terms of food and essentials, some of the migrant workers told a news channel there that this lockdown situation just can’t go on. The chief minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray said that this is because of poor planning by the Central government, where is other’s say it’s the state government’s fault for not spreading awareness among the worker community about the ongoing situation.
