Vale of Rheidol Railway Rheidol Festival of Steam 2024 25th & 26th Agustu 2024 Star guest for summer season in Mid Wales, was Ffestiniog Railway George England No. 4 Palmerston of 1864 from the Ffestiniog Railway. The locomotive is no stranger to the line having operated on the VoR numerous times on loan between 1912 and 1922. The loco arrived at Aberystwyth earlier in the year and was retubed early in the summer before entering service on evening sunset specials and as the gala headliner. The event celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the Rheidol Tanks, with GWR Rheidol Tanks of 1923, No. 7 (Owain Glyndwr) and No. 8 Llywelyn both in service over the weekend. Completing the line up on passenger trains was NGG13 Beyer Garratt built 1927 for South African Railway No. 60 Drakensberg. Locations featured are Aberystwyth, Llanbadarn, Capel Bangor, either side of Nantyronen and Devil's Bridge. At Aber, Quarry Hunslet No. 605 Margaret was on driver experience and footplate rides, with Wren locomotive No. 3114 on the same duties at Devil's Bridge. The event featured locomotives on display in the new museum in the former Great Western locomotive shed, including the Bluebell's GWR Dukedog 9017 and 4ft Padarn Railway 'Fire Queen'.
