Monday Morning Railfanning Action in Deshler, Ohio; A Sunny Day at Deshler Crossroads Park.

Hello everyone! On the next day following my July railfanning visit to Fostoria, I went to railfan in Deshler for the first time in about 18 months. At Deshler, I met up with my railfanning friend Cincy Railfan Productions for what would turn into a busy morning here at the Deshler Crossroads Park. As many of you may know, Deshler is the "Crossroads of the B&O" as it features the two busiest remaining Baltimore and Ohio mainlines on the CSX system, and it was good to be back here in Deshler after a long period of time away from it. This Monday of railfanning featured one of the busiest mornings I have seen in a good while. Between 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., we saw a total of eleven trains, which is incredible for Deshler in daytime. Deshler tends to get more action overnight than daylight, so anytime there is a bevy of action in daylight hours it is a major plus. Train X561 kicked off the action as the extra-M561 manifest down to Cincinnati with surprisingly only two engines for such a long train. Shortly after X561 cleared the crossroads we got our only meet of the day with an eastbound intermodal meeting a westbound manifest with a MAC-Attack. The rate of action kept up into the next hour with a short eastbound intermodal, a westbound tanker train, and the first great catch of the day in the form of a southbound grain train with a Canadian Pacific engine. This grain train is the same one I caught last time Cincy Railfan Productions and I were here in Deshler, and this train almost always features foreign power and a number of fallen flag rolling stock. Today's fallen flag rolling stock featured a plethora of Family Lines covered hoppers and a couple of Chessie System covered hoppers; pretty awesome. The grain train kicked off a mini-parade of southbound trains on the Toledo Subdivision. After it had passed through intermodal I141 and autorack M209 both made their way south onto the line on their way down to Queensgate Yard in Cincinnati. In the midst of the southbound parade, CSX continued an eastbound parade on the Garrett and Willard Subdivisions with a short intermodal train and the second great catch (or rather, catches) of the day, this time some quality fallen flag action on manifest M368 to Selkirk, New York. Manifest M368, the daily train from Chicago to Upstate New York, seems to be featuring fallen flag rolling stock more and more these days. Today's fallen flags included the likes of a Chicago and NorthWestern boxcar, a Southern Bay Hopper, and a Wisconsin Central boxcar. The morning period of this day of railfanning concluded shortly thereafter with daily hotshot intermodal I010, running at about its usual time through Deshler. Once I010 passed through, the Crossroads Park suddenly got quiet in terms of action. For some reason, the CSX action on this day just abruptly died down for no explanation. For the remainder of the day (between 12:30 and 3:30 p.m.), we saw just three trains, starting with daily manifest M560 from Cincinnati to Selkirk. After M560, the daily westbound Union Pacific intermodal (I191) came through with two engines. The third and final train of this slow afternoon came in the form of M561, the regular 561 manifest train that is, on its southbound journey to Queensgate Yard. Today's M561 did feature a pretty cool line of 86-foot boxcars, including a couple of Conrail ones! It is great to see the Conrail double-door boxcars still in service after 25 years. After about 20 minutes after it rolled on through, Cincy Railfan Productions and I decided to call it a day and just be grateful for the action we got today. In spite of the afternoon slowdown, I enjoyed my Monday Railfanning adventure here at the Crossroads of the B&O. It was good to return to such a revered railfanning location after not visiting it for over a year-and-a-half, and I look forward to my next adventure to the Village of Deshler, hopefully sooner than later. Thanks for watching, and I hope you enjoy the video! -N&W475.
