Pristine 1986 ATLAS Classe A Traction Elevator - Clinics - GO, BR

Happy (late) Birthday, IDLift3000! A very nice ATLAS Classe A elevator in a small clinics building near downtown. In amazingly great condition, proves that an elevator with over 35 years can still be in great shape, well, these were still built to last... I came here not knowing what they would have, and I didn't do wrong in finding this. Quick disclaimer, there are only medical OFFICES in here - meaning it's not unsafe to enter. I checked it before entering as I always do. The cab is pretty plain - beige plywood walls, and nothing more. Everything, from the walls, to the panels, floor and ceiling - hard to find a scratch. It's amazing how well kept this one is, looks as if it was installed yesterday. Riding it might even feel like a time capsule to the 80s. The COP follows the rest and is in good shape too. Only the 4 button has been replaced (notice the thinner font). All the indicator and button lights and even the direction arrows light up properly, a feat for most of these panels. The bells are also really good. The only visibke upgrade it saw in it's life, were the IR bars on the inner door. There's also the ceiling panel on the back with 2 LED lights, but they are very weak (I also saw those on other larger Classe As in the city). This entire thing is built like a tank, that says for the quality. Just look at how thick the door panels are (and how they sound). Overall, your standard example of a commercial-grade Classe A. The unusually larger size of the elevator for this type of building probably has to do with it being planned to fit hospital beds, which kinda makes sense for a tower with clinical offices. I don't find a lot of these with the 770kg (1700 lbs.) capacity, not sure if it's full hospital-size, but definitely bigger than the average elevator in a small office building that only has 1 car. Otis is doing the maintenance here, and seems like they came in not long ago, given how new their sticker looks and the Atlas Schindler capacity plate having the current logo. They crudely placed their sticker over the Atlas serial number badge, and now I can't know the exact age of this one. Rare to see old Atlases being mantained by them, at least in my region. And they're doing a good job on this one, it seems. It runs perfectly - the startups and stops are very smooth, and the ride feels solid. You barely feel anything, even the feeling of it moving isn't too strong. This thing rides really, really well, I've seen few Classe As that are this great. To top it off, the motor sounds epic, if it wasn't for that fan ruining it. The stopping is mostly audible on the upper floors, along with the startup sound that can be heard on most of these 1st gen commercial installs. One interesting thing I discovered after filming, was on the sidewalk down there - you somewhat can hear the motor working all the way from down there! Apparently the machine room has some open windows that allow for the sound to escape, and I could hear the whirr of it stopping from the outside, very cool. Specifications: Manufacturer: ATLAS Villares Maintainer: OTIS Model: Classe A Fixtures: 1st gen Classe A, pushbutton Type: Passenger Commercial Hoisting: Traction Doors: 2-speed sliding (APC-63 operator) Capacity: 770 kg/11 persons (apx. 1700 lbs.) In Service: 1985/86 Floors Served: 8 (T* - 1/7) Controller: Atlas ACBB, 2-speed, relay-controlled Motor System: Atlas CE-160 geared traction machine Rating: 10/10 - Talk about a good example of a PRISITNE Classe A, this one is. Even has an epic motor, unfortunately ruined by a loud fan which is commonplace for this model. Very well preserved, clean, lights, bells and lanterns working properly. Gives an idea how Classe As looked when they were brand new in the 1980s. Shot: August 27, 2021 Camera: Samsung Galaxy A52 © 2021 L. Naves
