The storage of component reels within an SMD production line is a great challenge for electronic manufacturers. Efficient storage, combined with controlled climatic storage conditions and complete traceability can lead to enormous savings potentials and quality improvements. The aim of the Dry Tower project for HS Elektronik is to integrate an automated warehouse into our process landscape, from goods receipt through an automated warehouse to production. It was particularly important that the storage and retrieval processes can be displayed automatically. This means that the line procures material independently and automatically, is in the inflow and that there are as few manual posting processes as possible. In addition, we needed more capacity within our warehouse and also planned to store MSL-sensitive components. Before the Dry Tower project was realized, the storage and retrieval processes had to be carried out at several stations. This means that several manual postings were necessary at individual stations, i.e. at the storage stations, at the machine stations or at the goods receipt, firstly to collect the material and secondly to make it available for production at all. By eliminating manual storage and retrieval books, it was possible to significantly reduce the number of staff and to focus employees on other value-adding activities.
