Locals are becoming increasingly fearful and demand action. Scientists estimate around 1,700 white sharks swim along the Australian coast, and a sudden spike in attacks is turning beaches there into places of fear. "There's still the misconception that the shark net is a barrier", says Barry Bruce, a white shark expert.
