On the Rade de Brest there are many sillons: shingle banks created by the strong tides. The Sillon des Anglais is one of the largest. It is far away from any village, surrounded by steeply wooded slopes. Here a cruising dinghy can dry out on a bed of samphire, for a night in peace and tranquility. The design is based closely on the traditional inshore fishing boats of Brittany, including her single boom-less lugsail rig and lack of a mainsheet horse, (controversial among my viewers).
