In 1999, composer Jason Robert Brown won his first Tony Award for Parade, a musical he cowrote with Academy Award, Tony Award, and Pulitzer Prize recipient Alfred Uhry. Coconceived and directed by the legendary producer/director Harold Prince, the show is based on the true story of the trial and lynching of Leo Frank. The plot follows Frank, a Jewish man wrongly accused of murdering a young girl, and the efforts by his unwavering wife, Lucille, to clear his name. Jason Robert Brown joined us at SubCulture to share his memories of creating the iconic opening number that introduced him to Broadway.
