Karadzic made the comments after a parliamentary meeting in Banja Luka (Serb-held territory in Bosnia). Karadzic said the Bosnian Serbs did not want to abandon plans of peace with Croatia, but that the Croats had themselves abandoned the Contact Group peace plan when they massacred Serbs in Western Slavonia. Karadzic added there was no reason not to unify, and that the Serbska Krajina unification would mean a larger Serbian army and more resources. Karadzic said: "It is our right for self determination and the international community should accept it."
