Kidwelly Castle History & Tour / Mighty Monument of Norman Power The Norman Kidwelly Castle is located in the town of Kidwelly in Carmarthenshire, Wales, overlooking the River Gwendraeth.  During a period when South Wales was the target of conquest, the castle was built in the early part of the 12th century by Roger, Bishop of Salisbury who was one of King Henry I most trusted servants and held the title of Lord Chancellor.  Along with other castles in the area such as Llansteffan, it was built to keep the conquested lands secure.
