One should never use earbuds, pins, or hair clips to clean their ear. Never use an earbud deep inside the ear as it might push the wax and make it impacted further. Patients can even damage their eardrums by the use of earbuds. Never perform ear irrigation as it may cause ear pain and sometimes even eardrum perforation. One can use wax softeners for a week and then consult an ENT specialist to clean the ear. The doctor will probe the year with a microscope or an endoscope or an otoscope to confirm the presence of earwax. The ear can be cleaned via a curette or through suction or syringes.
