My grass looks brown after I mow. brown haze after I mow Thanks for tuning into another episode of This is My Lawn. I've started noticing the grass looks dry after I mow and I lose color. The color goes from a darker green to a dull green with a ting of brown haze. After carefully examining the blades of the grass I have determined that the mower blades are dull and need sharpening. This can be frustrating because after examining my mower blades they don't look dull but they don't look razor sharp either. My kentucky bluegrass is thick! If the mower blade isn't super sharp my rotary mower is not going to give me a great cut. I took my mower blades to a friend of mine that owns a landscape company. He purchased the Oregon 88-023 Professional 1/2 HP Lawnmower Blade Grinder. There's some technique involved but this grinder did a fantastic job. My mower blades are super sharp now. You'll see in this video if you compare it to the last video that the color stayed in the lawn much better after the mow. On another note I decided to keep the front yard at 1". because I decided to keep the lawn this low I am treating the lawn weekly with iron and micronutrients to micro feed the lawn in order for overall health and color. The micronutrients will help keep the bluegrass out of heat dormancy. It also supplements nutrients that the iron will rob from the soil.
