Dwight Howard Posts 40 Pts & 15 Reb in Prime Duel with MVP Derrick Rose | Full Highlights

#dwighthoward #derrickrose Thanks for watching! Thumbs up, comment, share. - Dwight Howard, Derrick Rose SUPER-DUEL Full Highlights (Rare) Orlando Magic vs Chicago Bulls January 28, 2011 United Center DH - 40 pts, 15r, 4s, 3b / 14-20 fg, 12-16 ft DR - 22 pts, 12a, 6r / 6-21 fg, 2-6 3pt, 8-8 ft 2010-11 Dwight Howard was a sight to see. It was by far the best version of himself offensively. There’s an article that was constructed by The Oakland Press/The Associated Press in October 2010 that describes an exchange between Dwight and Hakeem Olajuwon during the the Magic and Celtics’ ECF series just months prior. It reads as follows: [Dwight Howard had heard it all before, people offering constructive criticism and invitations to improve his game -- he never really seriously listened. Until he received a phone call from Hakeem Olajuwon. That tends to happen when the voice on the other end of the phone is the NBA's former dominant center, shot-blocking king and two-time champion. Olajuwon just couldn't continue to watch helplessly from home as Howard tried to muscle the Orlando Magic past the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals with the same mundane moves. Superman needed help. So The Dream gave him a reality check. "I got a chance to analyze his behavior. You see the athletic ability and power, but you don't see a lot of creativity offensively," Olajuwon told The Associated Press in a phone call from Houston. "He just can't be afraid to open up his game." Olajuwon's call, which came when the Magic were down 3-0 to the Celtics in last season's series, pushed Howard to almost single-handedly force the series to six games. Howard shed his happy-go-lucky attitude and became a one-man wrecking crew, giving a glimpse of all that untapped offensive potential so many have craved from the NBA's twice reigning defensive player of the year. There just wasn't enough to show. Olajuwon, given Howard's phone number after meeting his mother at a Magic game in Texas, met with Howard in Houston immediately after the series. The pair trained for five days during the NBA finals. They worked for three hours a day, drilled on post moves, face-up jumpers, baby hooks, pump fakes and even some of those famous "Dream" shakes. Olajuwon also stressed the need for Howard to be mentally stronger, tone down his playfulness and maintain focus. "I realized I had an extra gear," Howard said, "and that I could be more of a vocal leader and push myself to an extra level."] - Dwight entered the United Center on January 28th averaging 22.0p, 13.4r and 2.2b on 57% in 36.1 mpg through 44 games. His team had compiled a very solid 30-16 record. This Magic-Bulls matchup was the first of a 13 game stretch in which Dwight posted 27.5p and 15.5r on 68% in nearly 40 mpg (Jan 28 - Feb 25). He recorded a double double in each of those games; also included was a streak of 4 straight nights dropping 30+ pts and 10+ reb - the longest of his career. Even more impressive was a stretch spanning 39 games (Jan 12 - Apr 3) that saw Dwight log 25.1p, 15.1r, 2.4b and 1.4s on 63% in 39.7 mpg. It was easily the best he’d ever played. His improved post arsenal was on full display every single night, this 40-pt gem in Chicago is exemplary. He concluded ‘11 at 22.9 ppg, up significantly from 2009-10’s respectable 18.3. Dwight’s newly refined offensive prowess paired with yet another Defensive POY Award worthy season placed him 2nd in MVP voting. The man crowned 1st was none other than Derrick Rose, whose 2011 campaign was indeed another sight to see. D-Rose finished at 25.0p, 7.7a and 4.1r on 45-33-86 (%) in 81 games, leading his Chicago Bulls to a NBA best 62-20. - Rare - few or no known highlights of player/game on YouTube at time of publishing.
