"Guitar in the Trunk" Back in high school, I was in a couple of bands. We wrote a few songs together, but this one is the first I really wrote on my own. I learned some chords by copying Bright Eyes songs and rearranging them, then started writing lyrics. I wrote this song for a girl I had fallen for, hoping she would hear my desire to live a life of adventure with her in the fictional narrative. We’re married now, so I guess it worked 😆 I've been playing this song for almost 15 years now. I know it's not the best-written song, but I try not to rewrite things. Instead, I take what I've learned and apply it to the next piece. -- Drinking yourself to death Ain't as easy as they make it sound The only thing that's killing me Is when I take a look around this town (shout out to Ashland City) So I'm leaving here tonight, darling, Not even taking time to pack The only thing I'm trying to ask Is "Can you leave here and not look back?"
