The Blues scale is without a doubt one of the most impressive and cool sounding scales. In this video Dan shows you how to play the Blues scale and gives you some practice tips to use on your saxophone to get it sounding extra Bluesy. Mercy, Mercy, Mercy was written by Joe Zawinul in 1966. Joe was the keyboard player in Cannonball Adderley's Quintet. Cannonball Adderley is one of my personal favourite sax players and a saxophone player that you should definitely be aware of if you want to play Jazz. He had amazing technical knowledge pioneered a few effects such as the "Adderley Trill" which I'll also cover in a later video. The song is in 4 sections and uses notes from low D to C with the octave key. If I get enough requests to make it worthwhile; I'll do a version for tenor sax! This is the first song in Dan Christian's free beginner's saxophone course and uses techniques and notes taught in other videos, do go check them out if you're stuck/confused and feel free to post comments/ask questions related to this video below :-)
