For those who have been shooting for a while, the pros and cons of each platform should be pretty obvious. Newer shooters tend to be drawn to competition-style/race guns because they are generally easier to shoot and they can look really cool. However, if you train primarily for self-defense, get good at using a normal, carry/duty-type gun first. Often, we see beginner/intermediate shooters immediately upgrade to a fancy, competition gun. Once they get one, they hardly ever use their carry or combat gun. Having a race gun won’t automatically make you better. If you’re a solid shooter with a carry gun, you will see a notable difference when using a competition-style gun.
