In the Planning and Development Department, the team views sustainability under a broad approach. Considerable strategy is placed on social equity. Some of the neighborhoods the planning department is focused on are: the Southwest Greenway and the Rails-to-trails projects that link the riverfront to Michigan Central station. The Bagley Mobility Hub as well as Roosevelt Park will incorporate GSI. Corktown/Mexicantown where work has addressed equitable (re)development. The Parker Durand mixed-use project on Kercheval is an excellent example of sustainable mixed use. It's 50% affordable and additionally, a significant improvement of the streetscape has been completed well as the adjoining park. Much of the streetscapes and commercial developments on McNichols, between Livernois, heading east toward the Lodge Freeway, much of the work is also being done by Black and local developers.
