Thank you for viewing. My name is Frank Iosue. I am a published poet and a lover of poetry. I produced this video showcasing the acclaimed and honored 20th century British poet, Philip Larkin, reading one of his most famous and admired poems, "Church Going" ( 1954 ). Philip Arthur Larkin CH CBE FRSL ( August 9, 1922 – December 2, 1985 ) was a poet, novelist, jazz critic and librarian. His first book of poetry, "The North Ship", was published in 1945, followed by two novels, "Jill" ( 1946 ) and "A Girl In Winter" ( 1947 ), and he came to prominence in 1955 with the publication of his second collection of poems, "The Less Deceived", followed by "The Whitsun Weddings" ( 1964 ) and "High Windows" ( 1974 ). His many honors include the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry. He was offered, but declined, the position of Poet Laureate in 1984, following the death of Sir John Betjeman. He died on December 2, 1985, at the age of 63, from esophageal cancer. I hope you will enjoy the video. Along with the audio of Larkin's reading of the poem, I have provided the text of the poem and attendant imagery to enhance the experience.
