B&W paper negative reversals

This video shows the process of developing a b&w positive image out of a paper negative. The test done in this video was to see whether fogging the negative (in light) just after stopping development would lead to a usable picture. The results showed very little difference between this process and fogging just before the 2nd development. This process uses normal paper developer (in this case Kodak Dektol), a normal acid stop bath, bleach with 1% potassium dichromate and 1.2% sulfuric acid, and a clearing bath of 5% sodium sulfite. No fixer is necessary. Although the bleach contains known toxins, it is acts quickly and can be stored over a long period of time (as opposed to potassium permanganate which is single use once mixed with sulfuric acid). Using and storing the bleach will require research into its characteristics and a risk assessment must be done to evaluate whether you can manage the risks associated with it. Because only the 1st development and stop bath need to be done in the dark (or under a safe light), this procedure can be easily done on the field using a developing tank. After the stop bath, the paper negative can be taken out of the drum and processed in the next 3 steps in daylight. This makes the process more interactive (especially the 2nd developing step where the image appears). One of the obvious issues with negative reversals is that the image will come out horizontally reversed. This can be overcome by placing a mirror at 45 degrees to the lens and taking the picture at right angles to the camera. This will flip the image before it enters the lens, which flips the image again and exposes the negative .
