Wenlock Downs Ooty Lush green grass that stretches endlessly and it doesn't seem to end no matter how much you walk. Finally when you find something different in the route it is in the form of another stretch of eucalyptus trees. This is Wenlock Downs for you. No you are not in the 'Realm of Rohan' (from the movie Lord of the Rings). But after seeing the downs you will be forced to believe that the producer could have saved much of his money if he had come down here to shoot the movie. Once renowned for the Udagamandalam Hunt, the Wenlock Downs is now home to the Gymkhana Club of Ooty and also the Government Sheep Farm. The 80 acres downs also accommodate the Hindustan Photo Films Company. All these do not take away even a little bit of the serenity and peace you get when you walk through the grass. This place is a wonderful hangout for the golf enthusiasts. Wouldn't qualify as a 'must see' place, when you compare it with the natural beauty of other surrounding places, but this is a totally different type of terrain from the Ghats that you see in Ooty. It certainly qualifies as an experience of a lifetime for those who like to go on long peaceful walks and contemplate about 'life' and the higher entities of nature. The sight of sheep grazing and the endless stretches of grass are sure to give you a lift if you are troubled due to some reason. Pykara Waterfalls Ooty Originating in the Mukurthi peak, Pykara River and the waterfalls the river produces is one of the most beautiful and majestic sights that you will get to see in Ooty. Located 20 kms away from Ooty in the Ooty-Mysore road, the Pykara lake has been developed into a thoroughly enjoyable picnic spot by the addition of a boat house and restaurant. The dam and power house built across the river also ensures hydro electricity to the population. Declared a heritage site, the Pykara lake is one of those "must see" sights in Ooty. As the river flows down the mountains it forms two majestic waterfalls, the first one fifty five meters in height and the second one even higher at sixty one meters. To bask in the summer sun by the side of the lake or go boating in the lake are the favorite pastimes of people who visit there. The surroundings of the Pykara are famous for the Toda settlements and these are one of the very few placements where you find the Todas in their natural habitat. It is advisable to take some warm clothes with you even during summer as it can get pretty chilly during the evenings. It is preferable to stay away from the lake and falls during the monsoon. Especially, the falls are very unpredictable during the monsoons as the level of water might rise suddenly without any forewarning and can result in catastrophe for any tourist caught unawares. #ooty #travel #ootytourism #ootytour #vlog #travelvlog #traveling #travelingmom #travelblogger #tamilnadutourism #bestplacesinooty #placestovisit #shootingspot #shooting #nilgiris #9thmileshootingpoint #Wenlockdown #pykara #pykarawaterfalls #waterfall #views #hillstation #hills #travelwithbaby
