Joanna thinks she has found the perfect job for Jenny. David Lanyon, the father of an old school friend of hers, is in the oil industry and involved in a think tank. He wants James to replace him. Joanna has spent the day with Valerie Lanyon and her father. That evening Lanyon gives Joanna a lift to the train station and on the way hits something with his car – Lanyon is adamant it was a pheasant – Joanna is not convinced. (Spoilers from here) When Valerie and David arrive at Melford for the weekend Joanna discovers that a boy from Lanyon’s village was killed in a hit and run incident. Joanna is distraught and almost unable to face David. James, whilst talking to David about the job offer, is able to get to the heart of the matter with him – he was the driver who hit the child. But on the way back from dropping off Joanna at the station! An excellent episode, one that revolves around Joanna. The question of whether she had a premonition about Lanyon hitting the child is left very much up in the air.
