We’ll start with a visit to the Roman Amphitheatre & Museum an impressive ancient site dating back to 15 BC, where public performances and gatherings took place during the Roman Empire. It’s one of the best-preserved amphitheatres in France and still hosts events today including the music festival Nuits De Fourvière. Next, we’ll visit the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, a stunning 19th-century basilica perched atop Fourvière Hill. Known for its elaborate architecture and intricate mosaics, the basilica is a must-see for visitors to Lyon. From the hilltop, you’ll be able to take in breathtaking panoramic views of the entire city, including landmarks like the Saône and Rhône rivers, Old Lyon, and the modern cityscape beyond. We’ll also take a peaceful walk through the Rosary Garden, a hidden gem nestled between the city and the hillside, offering a beautiful escape from the bustling streets below. Its roses, paths, and shaded benches make it a perfect spot to relax. One of the highlights of this tour is discovering the hidden streets and stairways that connect Vieux Lyon to Fourvière. These narrow streets and passages are a great way to explore Lyon off the beaten path. We’ll also pass the two metro/funicular stops—Minimes and Fourvière—which offer an easy way to reach the top of Fourvière Hill from Vieux Lyon.
