The amount of strength and power that goes into Aki Takahashi's music is unbelievable. Come learn from Aki at the Global Folk Music Retreat, Oct. 3-9, 2022 at Wildacres in Little Switzerland, NC. Learn how to show your own strength in your voice and music, by practicing kakegoe, which is a pulse - a confirmation, and a call of encouragement. It's a voice from one’s stomach, not singing or speaking. Rhythm in the body or drums accompanies kakegoe in Tracks 1 & 2. Or, learn melodies and structure of min'yo in Tracks 3 & 4. Through improvisation, you can make min'yo tunes your own, breathing new life into them. The improvisational style which is characteristic of the best Min'yo will be enjoyed by all participants. Min'yo is meant to be played & enjoyed by everyone regardless of age, or musical background. Aki Takahashi (aka. Ten Ten) is a taiko & shamisen player, and folk singer. She studied traditional music in Kyoto, and has given shamisen and vocal performances throughout Japan.  Since arriving in Canada, Aki has furthered her pursuit of traditional Japanese music with the addition of taiko drumming. Aki is Associate Artistic Director with pre-eminent Canadian taiko drumming group "Nagata Shachu", and a shamisen and voice instructor at the Bachido Schoolhouse: International Shamisen Community online. She is also the founder of the Japanese folk ensemble "TEN TEN", which has released four albums of original music and has performed with numerous artists from a variety of other cultural backgrounds and traditions.
