This video illustrates the viability of growing Yuzu and Sudachi – cold-hardy edible citrus with little or no winter protection in the mild winter temperate climate of the Pacific Northwest. Since these trees are hardy to -9°C and the fruit is harvested before winter (late October/ November), it is possible to grow them in the ground and unprotected in much the same way as citrus is grown in California. Planting the trees in a well-drained, full-sun and wind-sheltered site is best. The fragrant blossoms are highly attractive to foraging bees. The flavourful fruit has myriad culinary applications.
