The Fluval stratum vs Eco-Complete vs Flourite is an easy debate due to the fact that only Stratum has nutrients for plants. Eco-Complete is essentially only lava rock and Flourite only contains iron pretty much. Aquarium Eco-Complete is a form of lava rock that grows bacteria on it for the plants to grow. In my experience it usually takes around 5 to 6 months or the substrate to grow bacteria to feed your plants. This aquarium sucks straight works fairly well but it’s extremely dirty when you first add it to your aquarium. If I had to make a choice out of all the planted take substrates I would actually use organic potting soil because it has so much nutrients.
