Harley Benton PB 50 fiesta red review

New instrument, new review! The first 6 minutes are fairly chatty, so if you want the sound demo with a big dude with very iffy playing ability, skip to around the 7 minute mark and enjoy! I think the chatty part might be instructive for those of you out there on the fence about getting one of these basses, or any other Harley Benton instruments, for that matter. Fair warning, I'm not good at multi-tasking. This video is more about demonstrating the tone, rather than showing off some non-existent chops. If you're lefty like me, you know how difficult it is to sometimes get a very affordable instrument, especially from the companies that originally designed them. Thankfully, Thomann to the rescue! Thomann Musikhaus is easily the largest musical instrument retailer in Europe (arguably the world). Through their largesse and in cooperation with Cory Mura (check his channel out, not only for his reviews, but for his everyday Joe enthusiasm when he gets a new piece of gear) had a poll to commission some left-handed instruments. I took the opportunity to add to the poll the PB-50, one of Thomann's top sellers (in fact, by the time I got around to finally get mine, they had been through 3 runs of this particular model in both left and right-handed versions) but in Fiesta Red, and sure enough, they did! And boy howdy, are these babies a treat! I would easily compare these to the Squier Classic Vibe 50s P-basses in terms of features and quality. As mentioned in the video there has been only one real modification to the bass, and that's switching out the stock machine heads (which work fine) for something that looks more elegant and with an appreciable upgrade - the Ping-Well tuning machines (RM-1579) that you find on Squier Classic Vibe basses and the Modern Player series made in China. Of course, my string set of choice, GHS Precisions (45 to 105s) replaced the D'Addario stock roundwounds. I would imagine some Nickel rounds or Pressurewounds would sound killer on this bass too. Anyway, feel free to leave questions, comments and suggestions below. Happy New Year!!!
