The Amarna Letters: A Window into Ancient Egypt

What was life like for the pharaohs of ancient Egypt? How did hey rule and relate to neighboring kingdoms? We get a glimpse of these relationships in the Amarna letters, part of a corpus of documents found at the modern site of el-Amarna in Egypt. These letters date to the 14th century B.C. and provide important insight into this period, particularly the social and political world of Canaan. We get a glimpse at the cut throat world of the Canaanite city-state system and look at the challenges facing the people and rulers who lived there. But what, if anything, does this have to do with the Bible? Admittedly, not a ton, but there are a few relevant things from these letters that are worth understanding as we read certain parts of the Bible.
