For over 40 years Wyoming leatherworker Mark Barcus has created chaps, saddles, and other leather goods while working ranches in many locations. He Got his start in 4-H and with help from his father. Mark's extensive experience in ranching and leatherworking has led to countless recognitions for his fine craftsmanship. An accomplished instructor and presenter, Mark leads Classes at his Cow Camp Saddlery Shop and educates the public on the importance of handmade leather goods at institutions like the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. He has won the open chap competition at the Pendleton Leather show. He has judged the Sheridan leather show several times in the chap division where he gets to share insight into chap making with those that enter the show. He is also working with the Wyoming Arts Council as a mentor with a young lady over the next year. His passion is to share the trade of leather working, with as many as possible, in a way that will bring craftsmanship back to the trade. We caught Mark during filming online courses for Illume.
