A bit groovy, a bit trippy dawless progressive house jam w. SE-02, JX-08, Microfreak & Model:Samples

Lately, I’ve been experimenting more with some of my noise making machines, specially with the SE-02, JX-08, Microfreak and the Model:Samples. I usually don’t dive too deep into tweaking sounds and designing patches because I don’t have much time and I rather prefer to jam and make some music. But since the SE-02 and the JX-08 are easy to tweak and have a pretty intuitive interface, I tried to fool around with some of their parameters. In the SE-02 I’ve been taking advantage of the x-mod feature and the impressively agressive feedback. When these two are used in a moderate way, you can really get interesting sounds out of the SE-02, and it kinda starts to depart from the classic Model D sound, on which it’s circutry is based. In this jam I’m using the SE-02 for bass and again, I use the mod. strip on the KSP to open the filter during the jam. Regarding the JX-08, besides the typical filter tweaking on one of the patches, I also messed around with the DCO Env Amount knob for the other patch. Although I only tweaked it in one part of the jam (guess where), I think it gave the jam a bit of weirdness which I honestly liked! Regarding the Freak, I made the patch from scratch using the Superwave oscillator and added some modulation of it’s parameters with the cycling envelope and also some LFO. On the Model:Samples, I added some fake saturation to some of the sounds, by implementing a trick I discovered few days ago. Basically, you mess around with the LFO and make it so fast that it creates some sort of soft clipping effect. Maybe I’ll make a video about this trick in the future, when time allows me to do it. Finally, as in my latest jams, I’m using the Alesis Nanocompressor for some sidechain compression. Hope you enjoy this jam and let me know your thoughts in the comments!
