Jerry Stark Handmade Shaving Soap Redwood Ember

Handmade Shaving Soap by Jerry Stark (https://www.jerryshandmaderazors.com/...) is a new venture by the well known artisan straight razor maker, Jerry Stark. This northern Arizona resident has been making straight razors for years and recently developed his own tallow soap and vegan soap recipes to expand his artisanal offerings. Currently, ordering soap must be done through the company’s Facebook business page or by the Contact Us link on the website. Redwood Ember is a fragrance oil found on Bulk Apothecary This is my first smell of redwood embers and I am quite impressed with the smell. While billed on the website as “A spicy blend of cinnamon and clove that has a beautiful floral bouquet and woody undertone”, to my nose, this smells to me like the original cherry fruit roll ups. My nose detects a fruity but resinous smell which is bold and unique from anything I’ve smelled in this hobby. Scent strength is mid-strong out of the soap container and remains this strength once lathered. One soap that I recall being similar is Grooming Dept Ambra. Redwood Ember is offered in Jerry Stark’s tallow soap base. The ingredients are listed as: distilled water, stearic acid, potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, castor oil, beef tallow, lard, glycerin, sodium lactate, lanolin, babassu oil, avocado oil, kokum butter, cocoa butter, palm oil, shea butter and coconut oil. The soap is in the middle of the firmness spectrum. The soap is thirsty and requires an above average amount of water in order to properly dial it in. when dialed in, the consistency is very similar to cold sour cream. The slickness on this soap is excellent. It is evident that a straight razor enthusiast had a hand in making this soap as slick as possible. The post shave is good. The overall shavescore for Handmade Shaving Soap by Jerry Stark (tallow) is an 89. Soap bases that perform similarly are Mickey Lee Soapworks and Ballenclaugh.
