Discovery Session: Marine Biosensors Driven by Animal Behaviour & Vision Technology

Shellfish growers are in need of long-term verifiable biological, environmental, and production records. IntegraSEE and DeepSense have developed AI models to recognize open and closed mussels and oysters, and generate quantitative red, green and blue values from video images. The goal is to create a novel biosensor to better understand shellfish production from the standpoint of the product and its environment. Today’s session is led by Lawrence Taylor and Najwan Hassan. Lawrence Taylor is a biologist (MSc), entrepreneur, and CEO of IntegraSEE. He began his career as a freelance biological diver and underwater photographer for marine research and television productions. In 2016, Lawrence shifted to ocean tech, realizing the untapped potential of vision-based oyster graders for generating both production and biological data. His innovative approach has earned him recognition, including wins at Louisbourg Seafood’s Sea++, Halifax’s Fishhackathon, and participation in accelerators such as Propel ICT, Dal LaunchPad, and Blue Bio Value in Portugal, where he showcased IntegraSEE’s novel biosensor technology. Najwan Hassan is a Computer Science graduate who recently completed an IT Programming for Artificial Intelligence (AI) degree from NSCC. She brings forth three years of experience in introducing products and services to emerging markets. With a robust foundation in machine learning and a passion for artificial intelligence, Najwan is well-equipped to deliver transformative AI solutions that enhance strategic business initiatives and secure a competitive advantage for clients in the Technology Industry.
