#friednoodles #yamcake #cheecheongfun #炒面 #芋头糕 #猪肠粉 #chinatownfoodcentre Donned in striking pink apparel, Jia Ji’s employees are easily recognisable from afar. Light-hearted and cheerful, the employees, made up of a crew of three sisters, family members and some external helpers, have a positive outlook as they prepare and tend to customers. Jia Ji is a family business that has been continuing for 80 years, originally starting in Sago Lane in Chinatown as street hawkers. Currently helmed by the second generation of three sisters, the business in Chinatown Complex Food Centre first opened its shutters in 1981. The crew starts preparations as early as 3am. Peeling and boiling yam, frying noodles, cooking porridge, preparing Chee Cheong Fun - these are just a small part of the preparations process. Jia Ji’s amazing commitment represents the spirit of hawker culture. As we talked to them, one of the sisters recounted that during her pregnancy, she had to help out in the stall, even until the day before conceiving. Ranging from Yam Cake to Porridge to Fried Noodles, Jia Ji is the embodiment of Singapore’s street food delicacies. Their menu consists of Fried Noodles with side dishes like Luncheon Meat, Eggs, Fish Cake, Chee Cheong Fun, Yam Cake, and many more. Deciding what to eat can actually prove to be a herculean task! The stall operates throughout the day. Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch, or Dinner - you can enjoy their food anytime! However, do be prepared to face their never-ending snaking long queues! As we enjoy the food Jia Ji offers, we need to appreciate the unseen sweat and toil. The work behind the scenes is what brings us authentic and mouth-watering delicacies.
