EPA settles with Cobb Tuning for $2.9 Million

On September 16th, news broke that Cobb Tuning had settled with the EPA and was fined $2.9 million for violating the Clean Air Act. With Cobb Tuning being so involved with the Subaru community, this definitely caught a lot of our attention. Jon and Harvey from The Boostcreep talk about the implications of Cobb's EPA settlement, and what it could mean for the Tuning industry going forward. If you would like to take a look at the the Cobb Tuning EPA Settlement, or the other cases mentioned in the podcast, here are links to them: Cobb Tuning https://www.epa.gov/enforcement/cobb-... https://www.epa.gov/system/files/docu... Cummins Diesel https://www.epa.gov/enforcement/2024-... Rudy's Performance Parts https://www.epa.gov/enforcement/rudys... Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned! In this Episode: 00:00 - Intro 00:20 - Jon and Harvey are in the shop to talk about the Cobb Tuning EPA settlement 01:24 - When did Cobb and EPA start discussing these matters? 03:49 - Just this year, Cummins Diesel was fined $1.65 Billion for the same kinds of practices as what Volkswagen was doing in Dieselgate 05:20 - Why did the Cobb Tuning settlement with the EPA take so long? 8 years??? 05:55 - It is now clear that this is why Cobb Tuning started their Green Speed initiative 08:06 - It is significant that the Cobb Accessport and Cobb Protuner software were changed, not discontinued all together 09:22 - Was Cobb Tuning Violating the Clean Air Act? 10:57 - How does all this effect Flatirons Tuning as a parts retailer or The Boostcreep as a Tuner? 12:17 - Why the Injector Dynamics 1050cc Injector is such a game changer for Tuning 14:23 - Never count out the aftermarket - we will find a way 17:07 - EPA Vs. Rudy's Performance Parts was also settled in September, and it shows how things could have gone with Cobb Tuning 19:34 - The biggest surprise with the Cobb Tuning settlement is that it took so long to resolve. What about other companies that make the same kind of parts? 22:22 - What is the current state of the Automotive Aftermarket? 24:50 - We as enthusiasts need more companies to find ways to stick around and continue to give us good options of things to do with our cars. 28:07 - The hardest part of all the recent changes is staying up to date on what is and is not now okay to recommend and sell 28:40 - What about the Chevron Deference? Does that have a roll to play here? 30:30 - The old and new Flex Fuel systems are a good example of how we may actually come out of all of this with better options than we had before in some cases 36:10 - We now know why Cobb discontinued all of their Catted Down Pipes 39:40 - The biggest X-Factor going forward is testing - The Aftermarket needs more ability to test their products 45:50 - We also need better ability to get certifications for alternate fuels like E85 49:05 - If they are lowering the particulate emissions that an older vehicle is allowed to emit, they should also work with the aftermarket to develop newer and better parts to help those older cars run cleaner 52:05 - Testing really is the key 53:10 - Keeping older cars on the road, running well and running clean is the goal 53:54 - Final Thoughts _______________________________________________ Support us at our Website https://www.flatironstuning.com Connect with us on discord   / discord   Current specials and open box items https://www.flatironstuning.com/sales...
