Frontex's participation in joint operations against irregular migration in the Mediterranean, the Alboran Sea and the Canary Islands has been suspended since Thursday (January 24) after Spain failed to agree to the EU border control agency's 2024 operating plan. Interior minister claims issue is 'technical' and will be solved Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska told journalists on January 25 that "it is merely a technical issue that will be solved in the coming hours and not an operating matter". El Pais reported that the directorate general of international relations of the interior ministry on Tuesday sent its counterproposal for the Frontex operating plan just before the deadline to begin a new cycle of operations.
