Schedule a career meeting session with me: https://calendly.com/georgewangyuyt/3... Follow me: / georgewangyu Sorry about the credibility flex. In my previous video about replacing gaming with coding I talk about how I use productivity tools to help me with my work. I’ve seen so many productivity gurus talk about using notion with AI, setup with their google calendar, linked to evernote and all managed in some complex system. For someone with ADHD like me, it’s too complex too difficult to set up or just too rigid to be useful. My top 5 productivity tools basically have one principle, make a difficult task as simple as possible. One of these productivity tools even helped get my 4.0 GPA at Georgia Tech as a masters student in machine learning. Without further let’s start with the first tool, audible. The reason why audiobooks is great is I want to read but I also am too lazy to read. Whenever I read at night I start falling asleep, and I rarely can just sit down during the day to read a book. Now there are some exceptions like my favourite book Harry Potter Methods of Rationality or other amazing fiction books, however i’m talking about the non fiction that sometimes are difficult to digest so easily. Which leads me to audible. Audible is amazing because I can do other things while listening to a book. I can wash my clothes, I can be watching a game, I can be doing any mundane task that doesn’t require brain power along with audible. It’s actually not only made me be able to read more books, but also helped me do more mundane house chores. That’s not to say I dont read the book. In fact I’ve noticed once I’ve become entrenched into the audiobook, I sometimes go to the book version for re-read, and it’s made it infinitely more digestible. Number 2. Reminders with siri. I am a forgetful person, but the problem with using some tracking system on a note pad or some app is that it is too difficult to maintain. I’m also too poor for a personal assistant, so siri is kind of my discount dumb personal assistant. You can’t really have a extended conversation and it also can’t do much. But what it’s amazing at is it is available at all times. Most often there is something that I find out I need to do, I just say something like Siri, set a reminder to complete x task by tomorrow at 5 pm. That is so much easier than going click, click set the time, write the task, etc. It honestly just takes 10 seconds vs much longer to log something. Now that there is AI, I totally look forward to a day where my AI assistant can just handle my calendar and to do list tasks for me, in a much smarter way so that I can fire Siri. But for now it is really good. Number 3: Recorder I love this feature after hearing about this from the tech youtuber mkbhd. It’s able to transcribe your audio to text, discern different speakers as well. Again, the struggle here is typing is hard and I’m lazy. All of the tools I’ve listed thus far is to avoid reading or typing, and transition to audio where the medium is much faster and more efficient. This saves me so much time compared to having to type my thoughts, which is much slower. On average people can speak between 110 to 150 words per minute. Not there are some people who are amazing typers that can reach those speeds, but for now I rely on this heavily. The 4th the tool I use is pocket. I’m not sure how popular it is nowadays, but it is s simple tool where you can save any article you want to read for later and it can be saved offline. It’s super useful two fold, one when you have no wifi or network you have something to read. Two their formatting is so beautiful and makes it super enjoyable to read something, and often times makes the ui of the article infinitely better. Okay, now remember I use one of the productivity tools as a hack to get my 4.0 GPA at Georgia Tech? This is it, my final tool I’m going to be honest, in the past I hated listening to recordings of lectures or going to lectures. The reason is the prof would tell some stupid story about their dog, or just talk about various irrelevant things that I don’t care about. Most of the professors are focused more on research than making their lectures interesting. And I would so bored I would start watching basketball on a movie just so that I could tolerate listening to the lecture. That would cause me to do not as well in the class cause I wouldn’t be able to pay attention. Then If ound this extension called Youtube Playback Speed Control, but actually it can be used for all videos. With a simple press of a button, I can literally increase the speed up to 2x for anything I watch or listen to. Not only am I able to get through the lectures in half the time, but I can literally rewatch, and the professors are much more tolerable to listen to at 2x speed. This literally helps me get an A+ in most of my classes cause I can just cram all of the lectures and rewatch to retain the information.
