Trains at the new Carrum Station - Metro Trains Melbourne

After being closed for seven months, Carrum has finally reopened with a new elevated (Skyrail) station. Opening on the 17th February 2020, Carrum station was rebuilt as part of a grade separation project to remove the level crossing at Station Street, and to enable other nearby level crossings at Eel Race Road and Mascot Avenue. In this video we take a visit to the new station. After a quick station tour we see various Metro trains including Comeng's, Siemens' and X'trapolis EMU's. We also see the Long Island steel train to Hastings make an appearance with G527 & G525, although it was quite small on this occasion; only seven wagons. The new station boasts fantastic views of Port Phillip Bay; with the Melbourne city also visible. It definitely has the best views of any station in Melbourne! It also appears to be Carrum's new number one tourist attraction; there were plenty of locals and other visits admiring the view and taking photos. Although the station probably isn't admired by all. Carrum is part of the Frankston line sandbelt; one of the most politically sensitive areas of Melbourne with a number of marginal seats in the state parliament. Some local community campaigns tried opposing this project due to its elevated nature (similar to the anti-Skyrail sentiment seen on the Cranbourne/Pakenham lines). Due to the proximity of the Patterson River, an elevated rail structure was the only feasible solution here, with the state government including some additional sweeteners, including a new road bridge over the Patterson River on Station Street, and a new large public open space linking the station to the beach. However to avoid controversy surround Skyrail, all other upcoming grade separations on the Frankston line are being built as rail trenches. This makes Carrum the only new station on the Frankston line to be elevated. At the time of filming this video the station platforms were essentially completed with only the direct Station Street entrance needing to be built. However there's still much to be done, with the ground level facilities including ticket office, waiting room, toilets, car parking and new public open spaces still needed to be completed. The station will be fully completed later this year. Date: February 2020 Subscribe to ThebusofdoomFSX: https://www.youtube.com/user/Thebusof...
