On exhibit in January 2024 at Haggard Library - The Lesser-Known Stories: Photographs by Enrique Fernández Cervantes "The Lesser-Known Stories" is a small collection of photographic pieces that are part of a larger exhibition series by Dallas artist and curator Enrique Fernandez Cervantes. The artist’s works delve into the realms of an intimate narrative that draws inspiration from real-life and imaginary recounts, storytelling, and personal experiences. Each image in the exhibition depicts a unique tale, inviting viewers to step into the artist's world, where reality intertwines seamlessly with imagination. Influenced by a profound appreciation for oral history and literature, the artist weaves visual narratives that mirror the essence of magic realism. This genre, born from the literary world, finds its way into visual arts through the fusion of the ordinary and the fantastical, blurring the lines between reality and the surreal. Within these photographs, the viewer can witness the extraordinary embedded within the mundane, inviting contemplation and a sense of wonder. Enrique brings a fusion of photographic artistry and skills from other media to his works. Influenced by his proficiency in traditional drawing and painting techniques, he incorporates elements such as composition, lighting, and mark-making into his photographic compositions. His approach to photography reflects the thoughtful application of these artistic principles, adding a layer of depth and intentionality to his photographic imagery. This blend of disciplines infuses his camera work with a unique aesthetic and storytelling quality. Enrique has exhibited his work in art venues and universities in the U.S. and Mexico since the mid-1990s. Additionally, he has curated exhibitions and coordinated visual art programs at the Bath House Cultural Center since 1999. He has also provided curatorial and administrative assistance to venues of the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture, including the Latino Cutural Center, Ice House Cultural Center, Oak Cliff Cultural Center, Meyerson Symphony Center, and Moody Performance Hall, among others.
