My emotions took me through a roller coaster ride through the day, week, month and year and I was totally overwhelmed 😔 Until I found Yoga. After just 1 month of regular asana and pranayama practice, I saw immense changes in my mood. 😃 I started to feel more balanced, my emotional triggers as well as reactions reduced and I started to feel joyful in general. 😇 And that’s when I started studying the science behind it. Pranayama practice allows for the left and right hemispheres to function in tandem, hence reducing mental conflict and the constant tug of war between the 2 sides of our personalities - the mind and the heart! 🧠♥️ When we feel very strong emotions, our breathing often becomes fast and shallow, as if our inner turmoil is reflected in how we breathe. This link between our feelings and how we breathe is not accidental; it’s rooted in our automatic nervous system 🌬️ Stress and fear activate the “fight or flight” response, making us breathe quickly and shallowly.
