THANKS FOR GIVING A THUMBS-UP! A barely recognized lake in Lakeland, Florida, is perhaps the most excellent place for panfish anywhere in Polk County. Lake Gibson is a spring-fed (very low flow) lake that feeds Lake Parker. Don't let that scare you. Parker is green and ugly, while Gibson is clean and fairly clear. Not so clear the fish can see you coming or read the numbers on your boat decal, but it is clear enough that if you fell in, you would not feel as if you needed a decontamination shower (as in Parker). This lake is surrounded by old and new homes and some uninhabited areas. There are five canals on the northwest side (my boat house is in one of them). The best hole is located in the northwest quadrant, a few hundred feet from the bank. Look for the sea-plane launch ramp, and you are close. Use your Garmin to find the deep hole, then shut up and fish. This is the lake where all of the early Gheenoe videos were filmed. See www.Gheenoe.net for more info on our favorite boat.
