Traditional bell rope tying

My Scout Group found a bell that used to be a part of meetings and camps before the hut was pulled down and rebuilt. We decided to reinstate the bell in the hall, and for an extra bit of bling I decided to make a traditional bell rope for it. The design is mix of a couple of ropes documented in Ashley's Book of Knots, by Clifford Ashley. Extra info below the time indexes... #knots #scouts #bellrope 00:00 Introduction 00:07 Equipment 01:19 Tying the 4-strand Square Sinnet (the loop): ABOK 2999 03:36 Tying the 4-strand Mathew Walker Knot (tied around four core strands) ABOK: 683 05:52 Tying the 8-strand Round Sinnet: ABOK 3021 07:42 Tying the 8-strand Double Diamond Knot: ABOK 694 12:56 Tying the 8-strand Round Crown Sinnet: ABOK 2936 14:13 Tying the 8-strand Sinnet Knot: ABOK 757 17:10 Tying the 8-strand Crown Sinnet: ABOK 2913 19:20 Tying the 6-strand Spritsail Sheet Knot: ABOK 887 23:50 All done - a couple of pics of the finished bell rope. 'ABOK' denotes the reference number from Ahsley's Book of Knots. Rope: The rope is actually synthetic hemp - not natural at all. The advantages of this include not shrinking or stretching, is reasonably easy to work, and quite soft to the touch. I normally specify synthetic hemp for Scout pioneering kit for the same reasons. However, it does 'work' like rope, so you dont get the more pristine finish that you see with cotton macrame cord or paracord, which is what a lot of knotters use. I went for the rope to make sure there was an air of DIY about it. And because it's what I found in a drawer :) Useful stuff: Rope, twine, Swedish fid, marlinspike, knife, cutting board. Thanks for watching. Let me know in the comments if there's any other Scouty / Crafty stuff you what to see.
