Boyne: The Heather & Bay Harbor - Michigan Golf Trip - Part 4

Like & Subscribe Follow @thebossgolf on Instagram for more Bay Harbor 7:15 Boyne - The Heather - the 4th course of my Michigan Golf Trip and was the most relaxing and serene course of the trip. The Heather is a classic Robert Trent Jones Sr. course. The course is set at the base of ski slopes and is framed by mountains and is now my 3rd favorite mountain course all time. While the majority of the year this course is a ski track it becomes a golfers getaway in the summer months. While relaxing The Heather is moderately challenging as it weaves through tall mature trees and the majority of the holes are doglegs that require proper distance and position to advance to the green. The course has minor elevation changes but the elevated greens are usually guarded by large and deep bunkers. Note to golfers coming from warmer summer climates, bring some light colder weather gear, The Boyne Courses can start in the 40s before they reach the perfect 70s as it did with my morning tee time. The fairways while tree-lined were generous in size and good for a wide range of golfers Golf Digest Ranks Boyne's The Heather the 92nd best public course in America, 20th best course in Michigan. Golf Magazine ranks 14 best public in Michigan and recently won Golf Course of the year and Michigan Course of the year. The Heather is a perfect complement to a multi-course golf trip or players looking for a great round north of Traverse City. Boyne Bay Harbor: Links/Quarry - the 5th course of my Michigan Golf Trip and was the most picturesque course of the nine. I could not actually choose between all the awesome photos and drone footage so look at for my full video review. Bay Harbor was designed by one of my favorite designers Arthur Hills, who also designed Lyon Oaks that started off this Epic Michigan trip. The course is set in beautiful Bay Harbor. The course is part of a collection of three 9s Links, Quarry and Preserve. The Links is routed along Lake Michigan offering outstanding views and lakeside holes on the majority of the nine. You can be easily distracted by the lake views and stunning summer homes but focus while not overly difficult the Links course does require decent approaches and you will often have to carry, water or marsh to reach the green. The Quarry was actually my favorite 9 as you get half of the holes with views or holes with the lake in play or in an Amazing Quarry. The Quarry course offers a fun journey playing golf into a quarry, with tall rock walls framing greens and fairways. My game was challenged and I was stunned by the beauty, this is a must-play for anyone in Northern Michigan. Golf Digest Ranks Boyne's Bay Harbor Links/Quarry the 80th best public course in America, 17th best course in Michigan. Golf Magazine ranks 97th best public and 5th best public in Michigan.
