Some reflections are smooth and almost mirror like, others are broken and irregular. Some of what we “see” has to do with perspective in other words how close we are to the surface of the water but largely what we see depends upon the condition of the water surface. That is where our drill will focus on today. The water surface When the water surface is undisturbed and placid the reflection is usually mirror like and the reflection is complete. When the water surface is disturbed by waves the reflection too is distorted by the rippled surface. When a strong wind rushes across the surface the reflection is lost or broken. Then there can be objects floating on the surface and this can further distort the reflection. One thing that seems consistent is that the reflection moves in a vatical direction oriented to the viewer. This is a big difference if compared to shadows which move away from the light source.
