Trio Ornstein/Fentross/Tegelmann - ‘Lauliku Lapsepöli (live @Kröller-Müller museum)

Trio Maarten Ornstein/Mike Fentross/Kadri Tegelmann performs ‘Lauliku Lapsepöli’ in the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo. Maarten Ornstein - bass clarinet, Mike Fentross - theorbo/vihuela, Kadri Tegelmann - mezzo-soprano 'Lauliku Lapsepöli' is an Estonian traditional about how the mother rocked her child to sleep many years ago. 'Mother took my cradle to the meadow, put my crib on the heath, put a duck to rock the cradle, the bird of summer to push me.' full session: https://www.vpro.nl/vrije-geluiden/me... Bass clarinetist Maarten Ornstein and theorbo player Mike Fentross played together for the first time in 2013. Laula! is the third album by Mike Fentross and Maarten Ornstein. After their collaboration with singer Rima Khcheich they are once again collaborating with an extraordinary singer - the Estonian mezzo-soprano Kadri Tegelmann. Kadri is not only an excellent interpreter of baroque music; she also introduced Maarten and Mike to the deep and rich tradition of Baltic vocal music with its many folk songs, hymns and chants. Choosing the repertoire for this new album, they learned that many Estonian folksongs are about events from the cycle of life, such as birth, marriage, lullabies, leaving and returning home, and death. In the Vrije Geluiden session, just like on their CD LAULA! traditional Baltic songs are linked to music from the Baroque, whereby the substantive theme always forms the connection. All songs are about events from the 'cycle of life' such as birth, love, coming home, and death.
