Maurice started his career under the name Gene Dubuque but would become one of the great heels of the 50's and 60's after adopting his Magnificent character. He would also team with Handsome Johnny Barend and go on to headline Madison Square Garden and across the northeast. His opponent,Fritz von Erich (Jack Adkisson) was a great German heel throughout the 50's and 60's. He achieved great success in the Buffalo territory and would hold the Omaha versions of the AWA title. He would become promoter and owner of the Dallas territory.
