Tal Barba Cave and Dwejra - Gozo

Scuba dive in Gozo (Maltese Islands) Site: Dwejra Exit/Entry: Inland Sea The dive: Exiting the Inland Sea tunnel direction seaward, we keep shallow, and follow the NE wall. While passing the smaller Whale cave (crack) we come across a Stingray which swims leisurely in the water column. After a 200m swim we reach Tal-Barba cave. The cave entrance is about 15m wide but it narrows quickly. The tunnel shape cave goes a further 120 meters landwards and offers a nice freshwater halocline as well as a 2 degree drop in temperature just a few meters below a small air chamber with very low ceiling. The exit was relatively easy, after which the group splits. While most head back shallow to the Inland Sea tunnel, we follow our plan to descend to explore deeper water. The return journey is done at the wall's base at 50m depth. Nearing just below the Inland Sea tunnel we start our ascent and decompression. We come across a thermocline which brings about some currents and plenty of marine life. Reaching the tunnel, we proceed through it back to the Inland Sea to finish our deco and surface.
