Zeiss Jena Pionier 1 ..another rebuild story!

A very warm welcome to a new episode from my work bench. I am sorry, that I have so little time to do new videos..but I do,what I can do...Free time is not on my side....yet. A short 12 min, video like this takes me 5+ hours to edit....not mention the pictures and videos take before that....But it is ,as it is... In this latest video, I made a rebuild video of a sad find , the rare German a Zeiss Pionier 1. They are pretty hard to find engines today, also not to many made, so it would be worth save it. How ever, the engine was in really a sad state. Many missing parts....like the spec. carb. tube, the prop driver, spiner, spec. washer. and t he fuel filler. Furter was the worst thing the crank case condition. The left & right flanges to mount the engine were for 30% broken of...the corners on both were missing. ..and some "Specialist" tuned the engine by filing out the exhaust ducts. Maybe he get inspiration from the MK1 Pionier, which has larger ports..not sure why he did it.... I was really in doubt, if mainly the crank case could be saved some how....It was a gamble....but I am happy, I give it a try. After a lot work, some set backs, I did manage to get all the work done, as I had imagine. There were how ever quite a few challenges... so to speak! The engine is now a fine runner again, even it did look so awful. The Zeiss Pionier , if all is right, is a very easy to handle engine, and for its days a good performer...Most of the early Zeiss engines are very wel made..and a joy to run! So if you get the chance to get one of those early Jenas....go for it! Another one saved from the dust bin! I hope, you like the video..The fathers of the Zeiss Jena engines...I scan and translate a lovely peace of history for you, who do not have the "Jena book" and / or can not read German book. Here is the story..how it all begun...I though, it will be nice to share.. The history of the fathers of the first Jena engines.. Karl Zacharias was born on 14.11.1905. While attending elementary school, he learned the profession of precision optician at the Carl Zeiss company in Jena. After the Second World War, aviation enthusiasts and sponsors came together again under the auspices of Carl Zeiss Jena to make a new start. In the so-called Schlingerstand, an works hall, in the Zeiss Südwerk, the first flight models were designed and manufactured very soon. A compression-ignition engine (Pioneer type) designed by my father, which was built in close cooperation with the training instructor and workshop manager Walter Hercher, who unfortunately died in 1976, At the Zeiss edjucation workshop, the Pionier was build and presented in spring 1950 in Berlin, with enthusiastic recognition. The engine, which was operated with a mixture of ether and petroleum, was also installed in aircraft, ship and car models, it was a great magnet for visitors at the Leipzig Spring Fair in 1951. On August 31, 1951, the engine was granted Economic Patent No. 1806 by the Office for Inventions and Patents of the GDR. In 1950, Dr. Hugo Schrode, then director of Carl Zeiss Jena, an enthusiastic supporter and promoter of aviation, commissioned my father with the technical and organizational development of gliding at Carl Zeiss. Carl Zeiss Jena demanded, within the framework of the given possibilities, the revival of aviation in the then Soviet Occupation zone - first with model aircraft, later also with gliding...... Karl Zacharias past away in September 1984. Written by Axel Zacharias, the son of Karl Zacharias... ...an exhibit from the" Jena Book" by Eberhard Stenzel
