How does TPUCO control quality of TPU adhesive? Viscosity Test Step ONE. Random sample 45g TPU and prepare 255g MEK. Step TWO. Add TPU into MEK slowly and mix it at the same time. Step THREE. After mixing for 4 hours at room temp. & 200rpm, make sure MEK dissolves TPU pellets completely to form an adhesive solution. Step FOUR. Put the solution into a 25℃±5℃ incubator for over 12 hours. Step FIVE. Test viscosity of the solution with viscometer. Pre-test step: use a glass rod stir for 60s to reach temp. homogeneity The operator ensures a proper spindle is used for the right viscosity range first. As placing spindle in the middle of the solution container, place the spindle at a fixed height within the spindle scale. Let the spindle spins for 60 seconds, then record test result shown on viscometer for viscosity calculation later on. (range of deviation 200cps/25℃) Bonding Strength Test Step ONE. Prepare 30×6 cm PVC test pieces, and draw a red line 2.5cm away from both ends. Step TWO. Clean the test pieces with MEK and dry the test pieces in a 60℃ oven for 60 seconds. Step THREE. Coat a layer of TPU adhesive with brush in between the red lines, and activate the adhesive by heating in a 60℃ oven for 6 mins. Step FOUR. Bond the test pieces together, begin to record time.remove 0.5cm top and bottom Divide test pieces into 2x2.5*30cm test samples from the middle. One is tested at 6 mins after bonded for the initial bonding strength, and the other is tested after 72 hours for final bonding strength. Step FIVE. Test bonding strength by a tensile machine: Hold the un-bonded part of the test pieces with fixtures of the tensile machine, then peel off 1cm first. Machine keep peeling, stop with 1cm bonded part left. Record bonding strength results from tensile testing software. The test result shows how much force is needed to peel apart the bonded test pieces. note: machine test result unit kgf/cm, TPUCO report unit kgf/3cm. Heat Resistance Test Step ONE. Prepare 2.5*8cm T/C cloth test pieces. Step TWO. Coat adhesive evenly onto test pieces twice, and activate it with a 60℃ oven for 6 mins. Step THREE. Press and stick test pieces with pressure for 24 hours, Mark from 0.5cm to 2.5cm with a 0.5cm interval. Step FOUR. Hang each test piece with 500g weight in the oven and start to rise the temperature gradually. Record temperature when a test piece peels off to the 0.5cm~2.5cm marked line.
