As travelers, summer brings us thoughts of beaches to visit and ideas on ways to enjoy the beauty of the underwater world. Protecting our oceans is vital not only for the life within them, but also for our own livelihoods. Join our local chapter Impact Travel Bermuda for a lively conversation on coral gardening and regenerative travel with Dr. Samia Sarkis, an internationally-known marine biologist and the founder of Living Reefs Foundation, a nonprofit working to protect and conserve coral reefs in the Bermuda (the world’s most northernly coral reef system!). Attendees will learn: • The current state of coral reefs, and their benefits for our planet's health • The impacts of climate change on our oceans, with a focus on Bermuda's waters • How travelers can get involved with supporting coral reef health Coral reefs have an enchanting power to capture our imaginations. About our speaker: Dr. Samia Sarkis, a marine biologist, working at the international scale but passionate about the sea and Bermuda's waters especially, committed to maintaining its beauty and pristine quality, while still enabling all to enjoy it and benefit from it. Principal investigator of the internationally recognized economic valuation study which brought to light the value of Bermuda's coral reefs, Dr. Sarkis is the founder of Living Reefs Foundation.
