This video shows how to properly diagnose and replace failed bearing ledges and rectangrings (also known as hook rings) on a BMW N54. The hook rings were originally made of metal (prior to being changed over to teflon by 01/2010). The metal hook rings dig into the aluminum bearing ledges and cause low oil pressure to the VANOS phasers which leads to a large assortment of VANOS/Camshaft faults.
